Medium Format TLR Cameras

if you want the bigger format, but a small and quiet camera without exchangable lenses (for example for wedding photography)

Medium format TLRs are an older camera design which isn't well suited for close-up photography. Nevertheless it is very usable even today. Most cameras don't have interchangeable lenses, but offer an entry to medium format at a great price at often excellent quality. They use the 6x6 negative size. The mirror slap and dark pause problems are non-existing. They're very quiet and light-weight. Their waist-level finder allows for great composition.

The most famous medium format TLR is the Rolleiflex and its cheaper companion, the Rolleicord. The latter normally has a 3.5/75 taking lens and costs about 100-200 dollars used. Well-known copies include the Yashica Mat-124G, the Minolta Autocord, the Chinese Seagull, the Czech Flexaret and the Soviet Lubitel (in descending order of quality) as well as the Zeiss-Ikon Ikoflex. The Rolleiflex (extremely expensive) and the Seagull (very cheap) are still produced. The Mamiya C330 is available used and special due to its interchangeable lenses.

advantages: small, quiet, excellent image quality
disadvantage: not very flexible
